Jamie Spears Using Money To Control Britney

Now Magazine reports She’s been flashing what little cash she has in downmarket retailer Wal-Mart, but Britney Spears knows what’s best for her when it comes to her dad.

The singer’s career and finances are still under the control of dad Jamie after the courts extended the two-year conservatorship order indefinitely.

Officially Britney is said to be ‘content’ with the arrangement, but Now’s insider says it’s been a tough pill to swallow.

‘I don’t think it’s true to say Britney’s happy with it,’ says a friend.

‘After all, it’s her hard earned money she sacrificed her childhood to make, but she’s learnt to see it as part of her recovery.

‘When she looks back at the past two years, she can’t deny it’s improved, so she has to accept her father is doing something right.

‘What bothers her is he uses it to control her. If she misbehaves her father restricts her allowance.

‘In December he gave her some money and she spent it all online within 30 minutes! Jamie decided that was irresponsible, so he cut her allowance in half the following week.

‘It’s a battle, to say the least.’

But it’s not all skint city for Britney, who under the new terms of her conservatorship was able to negotiate an increase in her allowance, from £1,000 to a whopping £16,000 a week.

‘That certainly helped,’ adds the pal.

‘She can’t get anything past Jamie, but it’s made her stronger. It’s taught her discipline and the value of a dollar, something she wouldn’t have known otherwise.’

The Funniest Non Story Of The Day: Does Britney’s “Hold It Against Me” Rip Off The Bellamy Brothers?

Does Britney Spears’ new single, “Hold It Against Me,” rip off the Bellamy Brothers’ 1979 country classic, “If I Said You Had a Beautiful Body”?

You bet your life.

Sorry, that’s not an actual judgment call. It’s just a reference to the fact that the Bellamys have previously admitted copping their famous line—”If I said you had a beautiful body, would you hold it against me?”—from Groucho Marx, as heard on his 1950s TV series, You Bet Your Life.

But that didn’t stop the brother act from expressing (or at least feigning) outrage at Britney’s re-use of their signature lyric, which she slightly alters and renders as: “If I said I want your body now, would you hold it against me?”

“Hey, Brit, if I said you ripped off our song, would you hold it against me?” said Howard Bellamy. Added brother David, “If you listen to the lyrics of Britney Spears’ new single, you’ll find some major similarities… She’s a talented gal. But professionally, well, in all honesty, we feel completely ripped off. Where’s the originality?”

Naturally, the statement released by the Bellamys’ Nashville publicist includes nary a mention of how the phrase in question wasn’t original to them, either.

In an interview with Songfacts a few years ago, Howard Bellamy was open about the source of the famous quote. “I have to give credit for that line to Groucho Marx,” he said then. “Groucho used to have a show on TV when we were growing up… He’d have guests on, and different quiz questions… He’d use that line occasionally and say, ‘If I said you had a beautiful body would you hold it against me?’ and shake his cigar and kind of raise his eyebrows.”

We can only hope Britney’s upcoming video for “Hold It Against Me” includes her shaking a cigar, so she can prove she ripped it off from the same source the Bellamy Brothers did.

Although the Bellamys’ statement seems a little disingenuous in its claims for originality and omission of Groucho, there’s no doubt that, in adopting Marx’s old catchphrase into a song, they were being less un-original than Spears is. It’s probably true that anyone under 30 who doesn’t come from a country-loving family has never heard the phrase before. But certainly almost anyone over 35 or 40 has, and not even just country fans, thanks to the title’s ubiquity in popular culture in the early ’80s.

It may not count as plagiarism, but even after a few decades, you’re still kind of surprised that anyone would have the chutzpah to go there. For anyone in middle age or older, hearing a song with that as its lyric hook, it’s as if someone wrote a new song called “(I Don’t Have Any) Satisfaction” or “Janey Got a Glock” or “Hi, Jude.”

Or as if they wrote a new song called “California Girls” or “I Kissed a Girl.” Oh, wait…

There does seem to be a bit of a pattern emerging in the Dr. Luke/Max Martin camp, where everything old is new again, when it comes to appropriating familiar old titles or lyrical hooks. Dr. Luke has said in interviews that he’s not that much of a lyric guy, so it seems entirely likely that Katy Perry was responsible for borrowing those earlier titles—and that Britney had this one pop into her head, after almost certain exposure to it growing up in the South.

No one is likely to ever confuse the songs in or out of a court of law, since “Bellamy Brothers” and “dubstep” aren’t often mentioned in the same breath. Somehow, we suspect the bros are a little less offended and more bemused than they come off in their statement. But we’re glad to know they have “no beef” with Brit-Brit, because we’d hate to see the mustachioed “Let Your Love Flow” dudes caught up in a drive-by.

Britney Defies Pop Music Rule Book

MTV reports The new Britney Spears’ single, “Hold It Against Me,” hit the Web this morning and, sorry haters, it’s a home run. The Max Martin/ Dr. Luke concoction combines the electro-house craze currently fueling Top 40 radio with a sing-songy chorus that nods to Britney’s bubblegum past. (Strip away the grimy electronic pulses, and that refrain could fit snuggly into the kind of midtempo ballad Spears used to drop with every other single.)

As far as 2011 mainstream pop music goes, it doesn’t get much shrewder than “Hold It Against Me.” When MTV News staffers listened to “Hold It Against Me” today, we spent almost an hour brainstorming ideas around the song and considering Spears’ place in contemporary pop culture. During discussions of hair-shaving and conservatorship, it hit me: What’s most noteworthy about Britney’s career of late is what an anomaly it is.

Britney Spears single-handedly disproves the theory that pop music prioritizes style over substance. Without flashy music videos, a primping glam squad and tricky studio wizardry, naysayers argue, pop stars would not be able to maintain their luster.

Based on those criteria, though, shouldn’t Britney’s success have fizzled out years ago? By 2007, America’s pop music sweetheart-turned-sexpot was a mother of two who had replaced her personal trainer with a bottomless frappuccino. If, according to her critics, Britney’s major selling points were her six-pack abs and sex appeal, she’d have dropped off our radar by then.

Furthermore, fans haven’t been able to latch on to Britney’s public persona — they way the respond to, say, Katy Perry — because for all intents and purposes, Brit has none. Spears hasn’t given a proper TV interview since MTV’s “Britney Spears: For the Record” documentary in 2008, and even that was a highly produced affair, with Britney’s handlers getting final approval over the content.

When Britney pops up in public (to run her decidedly unglamorous errands), she’s often wearing Uggs-inspired (F’uggs?) boots and a weave that looks like its seen better hair days. Aspirational style icon, she is not.

In the end, though, it’s not about Britney’s looks or personality. It’s about delivering irresistible pop singles, which Britney makes look as easy as one, two, three (Peter, Paul and Mary).

To put it simply, “Hold It Against Me” rules. Silly pickup lines make up the bulk of the lyrics, the unrelenting beat is fist-pump-able, and Britney’s vocals are warm and, well, human. (Not to mention her endearing pronunciation of the word “hazy.”) And how awesome is that metallic chug-of-a-breakdown that finds Ms. Spears snarling “pop it like a hood” over a hip-hop shuffle? Whoa.

Britney’s shooting the music video for “Against Me” in a few weeks, but the end result is moot. To me, she hasn’t been a true music video artist since “TRL” was on the air. If the clip is awesome, I’ll cheer for her, but if it’s less-than-epic, I won’t hold it against her. The song is great regardless and, these days, that’s all we care about when it comes to image-proof Britney Spears.

Rumors are running rampant that Britney is soon going to release very personal video diaries that show her in both good times and very rough times. Apparently in her diaries she pulls no punches. Britney Says Bye-Bye To Her Cars

Well, Britney might as well start now since her Dad/Conservator has just been granted by the court to sell or dispose off some of her cars. The cost of maintaining seven cars can be very expensive. Especially if Britney doesn't really have an income as much as she used to make, I can imagine. Then add the her legal fees, her ex's legal fees, child support, paying her staff, her Dad, then feeding everyone under her roof, speaking of her roof, she has to pay mortgage too. HIAM Video To Be Shot In Two Weeks And New Song Titled “I I I Wanna Go”

RyanSeacrest.com reports It’s been over two years since Britney Spears released her sixth studio album Circus, and with the welcoming of 2011, the reigning princess of pop is set to take back the music scene. Tuesday, Spears is set to release her first single “Hold It Against Me” from her forthcoming album slated to hit stores and iTunes in March.

Spears’ managers Larry Rudolph and Adam Leber gave Ryan a first listen to the high-energy single on Thursday, which blew away the demo that leaked online earlier this morning. Leber played the song off of his trusted iPod Classic in Ryan’s radio studio (see photo below). Britney’s managing team also played a second song for Ryan, “I I I Wanna Go” another powerhouse single from the new album.

Rudolph and Leber explained to Ryan that the creative process for “Hold It Against Me” music video is well underway and are nothing short of spectacular. Spears has been rehearsing choreography for the video for a month now, and will shoot in two weeks.

Britney Spears Latest Car Accident - Nothing Major

Britney has a lot on her mind these days, so it's easy to understand that her mind would wander while navigating painfully annoying stop-and-go L.A. traffic. That's probably what happened last night when her 2008 Mercedes tapped a Nissan in the rear. Cops showed up, took a report, but everyone walked away without any bumps or bruises. There was no damage reported to either vehicle.

"Nobody was injured," Kimball was quoted by E!Online as saying, and no tickets issued either.

"She failed to notice that the vehicle in front of her had come to a complete stop. She attempted to brake but failed to stop her vehicle prior to colliding with a 2006 Nissan"

I tell ya, Mercedes really needs to get their act together! She did step on the brake, but the Benz wouldn't stop. What's up with that ;-)

Britney Not Confirmed For Grammy’s

People reports Don’t hold it against her – but Britney Spears isn’t performing at this year’s Grammy Awards, her label tells PEOPLE.

Contrary to reports online Tuesday, the pop star, 29, who just released her new single, “Hold It Against Me,” which already rose to No. 1 on iTunes charts, has no plans to sing live on the Feb. 13 telecast.

Adds a source: “I really doubt it.”

A full list of Grammy presenters and performers is expected to be announced in the coming weeks. The awards show will air live from L.A.’s Staples Center on CBS.

Miley Cyrus has given her thumbs up to the new Britney Spears single, Hold It Against Me.

The track – which premiered this week – is the first single from Spears’ upcoming seventh album (released in March) and has already won over fans and critics.

Britney and Ex-Manager, Reunited, Again

Larry Rudolph and Britney have reunited for the 3rd time(?). Larry was Britney's Manager when she first started in the business. Somehow they went their separate ways when everything turned into an episode of Jerry Springer. Around the time she met and married K-Fed. Then when she filed for divorce, Larry was by Britney's side. Things went sour, again, when Larry encouraged Britney to go to rehab. Her family actually asked Larry to be the Man to tell Brit, "hey, get a hold of yourself". Yah know. Britney obviously didn't like it coz they parted ways.

Britney's road to "normalcy" led her once again in the managing hands of Larry Rudolph. Thank goodness. Let's hope this piece of a puzzle in Britney's life helps her be, errrr, normal :).

Neil Patrick Harris Disses Britney

Apparently Doogie is not that smart after all. Neil Patrick Harris star of the sitcom 'How I Met Your Mother' is saying he hopes Britney Spears is not asked to do another cameo appearance on his show because he doesn't want the show to turn into another 'Will and Grace' where the episodes were all about famous guest appearances.

The problem for Neil Patrick Harris is, well, his show's ratings are, well, not that good. Or, I should say, the ratings weren't very good until Britney Spears made an appearance and brought over a million new viewers to the show. Earth to Doogie, ratings matter. Ratings pay your paycheque. Oh and one more thing Neil - Britney will be back on your show, bank on it. And if you don't, your producers will!

Britney's "Lawyer" Thrown Out

Jon Eardley, who months ago claimed that Britney hired him as a lawyer filed papers in court claiming Britney's rights have been violated with the placement of a Conservator That first claim was deemed bogus. Eardley filed again and for the second time, the Judge threw it out without even Britney's Conservator/Daddy filing as a response.

Geez, give it up already. OK Magazine says Britney did talk to Eardley in the beginning of the Conservatorship being set in motion. But only through a 3rd party conversation and Brit was still a little messed up in the head. I think she's getting back to normal now..LOL.
